Most dating app stories aren't usually a success, but we can gladly say ours is! It all started on "the Bumble Bee" (Bumble) dating app in late summer 2018. After many attempts and frustrating swipes to the left, there was the one shining profile (on both sides) that had us eagerly swiping right. "It's a Match!" After about a month of online conversations and getting to know one another, we had our first date at Izakaya Hachi, followed by drinks at Memphis, and jukebox tunes at The Tin Lizzie. The next day Julius sent Ashley a Spotify playlist titled, "Tin Lizzie Saloon - Songs They Don't Want You To Hear" with all their requested songs. The sweet and thoughtful gesture led to another date, conversations about the future, goals and dreams. The rest is history! Fast forward to a handful of stamps added to our passports, two consecutive Women's World Cups, eating our way through several restaurants, food stalls and tasting menus (catching a few Michelin stars along the way), two apartments in Long Beach, many Barry's bootcamp classes, snuggles with our two sweet orange kitties, topped with a couple of scoops of Kansha ice cream. We are finally tying the knot! :)
It started with a little white lie—, gasp! Julius went skating in the morning, but secretly he was sitting in traffic on the 405 freeway and La Cienega Blvd en route to pick up the ring. After returning home (and surprisingly not sweaty), he suggested grabbing dinner at our favorite udon spot. After a delicious dinner, we stopped by our favorite Japanese garden and picnic spot. Strolling through the garden, Julius checked his pockets to make sure the ring was secure, waited for nerves to settle and folks from surrounding business buildings to leave. Julius then picked the spot to “take some pictures.” After numerous failed attempts at selfies, followed by a wave of emotions ranging from frustration, annoyance and irritation. His phone finally stood still, time stood still and the moment was now. Julius got down on one knee and asked for forever. Surprise and shock took over Ashley's emotions, taking a deep breath, she said YES! Julius captured what has to be the most memorable two and a half minutes of video footage. A memory that will forever be etched in our hearts. After a rollercoaster of emotions, happy tears and laughter, we ended the special moment by getting soft serve ice cream to celebrate. It was truly a day to remember!
