How We Met

Brandon and I met in 2018 during our freshmen year at Southern Adventist University during supper with friends at KR's. A few months later we became reacquainted through a study group; we learned we were both nursing majors and began studying for our classes together. Our study group turned into our friend group and we started hiking and biking on weekends together. Eventually, we coordinated all of our nursing classes so we had the same schedule. During our sophomore year, right before Thanksgiving break, we confessed our feelings for each other. That night we both rode our bikes down the greenway to Veteran's Memorial Park and sat on top of the tank talking for hours. After Thanksgiving break, we had many conversations about dating but decided to put our feelings aside so we could go on a mission trip to Peru together. In Peru we learned a lot more about each other. We lived in close quarters with all of the missionaries and spent most of every day together. From working together in medical campaigns, grocery shopping and cooking together, raising kittens, to many late night conversations sitting under the stars, we got to know each other very well. When the world went into lockdown due to COVID, we became reliant on each other, our families, and Southern's mission office to get us out of Peru. That was a crazy experience that bonded us even more. In June, Brandon flew to my house to visit for a week, meeting my family for the first time with bright yellow hair. At the end of the week we drove to Michigan together, stopping at Mammoth Cave National Park in Kentucky. We packed a picnic lunch and went hammocking in the forest where Brandon asked me to be his girlfriend on June 26. Since then, we've had many fun camping and biking adventures--along with exhausting clinical days in the hospital, and early morning study sessions. On March 29, Brandon proposed at Glen Falls after a delicious Thai curry dinner on a beautifully decorated bridge by a waterfall. In May, Brandon and I both graduated with our associate nursing degrees, and we are so excited to get married and begin our lives together!
