Travel Note
Starting January 8, 2025, US citizens will need an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) to enter or transit through the United Kingdom. The ETA is a digital entry requirement that's linked to your passport. Click the below link for more information & application instructions. The easiest way to apply is via the UK ETA app. The ETA costs £10 (about $12.58) & is valid for 2 years. Please make sure you have a valid passport BEFORE you apply for the ETA. Please check your passport expiration date & ensure that it will still be good for at least 6 months past your travel dates!
Travel Note
Inverness (INV) is the closest airport to the venue, approximately 2 hours by bus or car or 3 hours by train. If going by train, the nearest station to the venue is Kyle of Lochalsh, which is 8 miles from Dornie, where Eilean Donan Castle is located. Skye Car Hire is located across from the train station in Kyle. There is also a taxi service that can take you from the Kyle train station to your accommodation. If you choose to fly into Glasgow (GLA) or Edinburgh (EDI), you will probably want to either rent a car or take a bus, as all trains to Kyle of Lochalsh are routed up through Inverness & will make for a VERY long travel day. Glasgow is about 4 hours by car & 5.5 hours by bus. Edinburgh is about 4 hours by car & almost 7 hours by bus. It is also possible to take a 3-4 hour train ride from Glasgow to Ft. William & then take a 2 hour bus ride into Kyle of Lochalsh. **If you plan on renting a car, please note that you will be driving on the left side of the road & it may be difficult to find an automatic transmission vehicle.** Train tickets can be purchased in advance from https://www.scotrail.co.uk/ or https://www.thetrainline.com/ & prices are generally cheaper the further out you book. If you want to explore more of the UK, you could also fly into London (LHR is the most user-friendly airport) & then take a regional flight directly to Inverness OR book at ticket on the overnight sleeper train (approximately 11.5 hours) from London Euston station to Inverness. Tickets for the Caledonian Sleeper can be booked at https://www.sleeper.scot/. Please note that the Caledonian Sleeper does not run on Saturdays. There is also a LNER train that runs from London King's Cross to Inverness once daily & the journey is approximately 8 hours. The wedding party will most likely be flying into London in order to spend some time in Ashley's favourite city prior to journeying north to the wedding!
