Owen and Alexis met through mutual friends in the summer of 2017. Alexis and her long time friend, Lizzie were invited to spend July 4th weekend in Raystown, PA at Owen’s family home. One day on the lake, Alexis and Lizzie decided to partake in the traditional, yet dangerous, act of cliff jumping on the lake. Owen was the videographer. Alexis was keen enough to get Owen’s phone number when he sent the video to her afterwards. After a weekend of fun on the lake, Owen treated the girls to ice cream. This was easily the way to Alexis’s heart. When she returned home, Alexis knew the polite thing to do was to text Owen and thank him for his hospitality. And since she already had his phone number, this was quite easy to do. After that weekend, they spent more and more time together. Mostly getting ice cream. At the end of the summer, the two decided to make it official. Thank goodness for lakes, cliff jumping, and ice cream!
It was the morning of Alexis’s first Mother’s Day after the birth of their son, Jay. It was a near sleepless night for the two. Jay was only a week and a half old. They planned on having breakfast with Alexis’s mother, and then lunch with Owen’s mother that day. When Jay awoke that morning, Owen was quick to jump up in bed and offer to take the baby. Alexis was more than happy since she could use all the extra rest she could get. Owen took Jay into the nursery to change his diaper. When he returned into the bedroom, he handed Jay to Alexis. Although, he wasn’t wearing the sleeper that he went to bed in. Alexis assumed maybe he had spit up or peed through it. As she was looking at this new onesie, she realized that it had writing on the front. When she read it, it said “Mommy will you marry Daddy?”. As she looked up at Owen in disbelief, he was already down on one knee. He had the most beautiful ring in his hand. She immediately burst into tears. Her first words were “Are you sure?” And “Is it because we have a baby?”. Owen couldn’t help but laugh and just say “No. I love you.” It was the easiest yes she could have ever made.
