The story starts out an unlikely one. Literally separated by a continent, an ocean, and a language, Evie and Antoine did not seem destined to fall in love. In 1970, while Evie was playing in the alfalfa fields behind her house in Canton, Ohio, Antoine was in Boulogne-Billancourt, France, reading every comic book he could and dreaming about owning a schnauzer dog. They were 3,927 miles apart. By 1976, Evie and her family moved to Potomac, Maryland -- now 3,831 miles separating them. While she and her sisters played in the creek at the end of Sleepy Hollow Lane and spent her free time at the mall, Antoine was in high school, reading every science fiction book. By 1980, they were still worlds away -- Evie was at Cabin John Junior High, singing "At the Ballet" from Chorus Line in the school talent show as Antoine flew over her on his way to Los Angeles, where he worked at his father's friend's restaurant, the famous Ma Maison. By 1993, they were both in Los Angeles, and even attended the same friend's birthday party -- but still no 'meet cute'. Flash forward to 2007, and they meet for the first time at a comedy show. (Antoine didn't remember; Evie *did*), then meet again at an after party on the Disney lot, where Antoine was working. (Antoine didn't remember; Evie *did*.) The same mutual friend invited them to the ACE Hotel for a show, and they talk all night. (Topics of conversation: "Why the 20th century is the Jewish achievement century" -- Antoine; "My superior memory" -- Evie.) Evie asks Antoine for the birthdays of his family and promises that the next time they see each other, she'll remember. Antoine takes pictures of Evie refusing to have her picture taken, and a spark is born. But Antoine is dating someone. The stars are still not aligning. More than a year later, Antoine is available, and Evie sees Antoine's post on Instagram about day drinking (!) with his friend Tony at the Formosa. She's working around the corner. They meet at the Formosa. She remembers all his family member's birthdays. He comments that he likes her new leopard-print pumps. In 2014, le même ami les a invités à sortir et ils discutent toute la nuit. Evie demande à Antoine les anniversaires de sa famille et lui promet que la prochaine fois qu'ils se reverront, elle s'en souviendra. Antoine prend des photos d'Evie, et une étincelle naît. Mais Antoine sort avec quelqu'un. Les étoiles ne s’alignent toujours pas. Un an plus tard, Antoine est disponible. Il est au Formosa Café. Evie travaille au coin de la rue. Ils se retrouvent. Elle se souvenait de tous les anniversaires de sa famille. Il a commenté qu'il aimait ses nouveaux escarpins à imprimé léopard.
