Meredith and Tony were both beginning new jobs in Grand Island, NY and happened to sit down next to each other on the first day of the new employee orientation. At the end of the second day of orientation, Tony asked Meredith for her phone number. As he stood there waiting for a response, all twenty of the other new hires fell completely silent, watching intently to see what would happen. Meredith thought Tony only wanted to be friends....Oh how wrong she was.
On a chilly April evening, Meredith and Tony were making dinner together at home. While an unsuspecting Meredith was down in the basement attending to laundry, Tony set the table (complete with candles and a bottle of wine!) and placed the ring in his front pocket. When Meredith returned upstairs, she was adamant in expressing her concern for a potential issue with their washing machine. Tony (somehow managed to get a few words in...) assured her he would take care of it and requested that Meredith pause her thoughts for a moment (he actually shushed her) so he might be able to ask an unrelated question. Tony then positioned himself on one knee in the kitchen of their apartment and asked "do you want to spend the rest of your life with me?". I believe she said yes.
