Our Story

Annie: Way back in fall of 2019 I started attending a swing dancing class held in downtown Birmingham once a week. The first part of the class was a lesson which wrapped up with changing partners to practice our new moves. The second half was a social where anyone could ask others to dance for a song or two. I tended to leave the social part early in order to go catch up with my girlfriends who were faithful to watch the Bachelor on Monday nights. In 2020 Madison started attending the class. I remember noticing his eyes and the fact he was always chewing on fragrant fruity gum. Then Covid struck the world and swing dancing was no longer happening. Fast forward to November 2020: guess who popped up via Facebook messenger. We went on our first date on November 15th. He had a reservation at Village Tavern which impressed me. From there we went to Jenis ice cream, and since I was not wanting the night to be over I decided we should have an impromptu game night with my roommate and her boyfriend. About a month later we decided to be exclusive! Madison: Once exclusive, we got to know each other better and spent a lot of time with each other's families. We survived covid together (Annie gave it to me for Christmas 2021- worst gift ever). I decided to start attending Shades Mountain, Annie’s church, regularly with her. We’ve gone through a lot together: new jobs, back to school, a car accident, and more! We’ve also worked through a number of hard conversations. In July of 2022, we went to the beach with the Greens, and I asked for their blessing. After 4 months of secretly and diligently planning and ten days before our 2 year anniversary, I asked Annie to marry me in front of the dance studio where we first met.
