Short version- we got to know each other through church. Longer version- shortly after moving to Atlanta, when Ann was expecting a ride from her friend Claire but Claire's car died and needed a jump, Claire sent an SOS message to a group of Clemson alumni living in Atlanta. Dave arrived as the knight in shining armor and jumped Claire's car in the Doraville MARTA parking lot. What a hero!
After a few years of friendship and many victories as Spikeball partners, Ann came home from playing Spikeball one Sunday and girlishly giggled to her roommates that she may or may not have a crush on Dave. And apparently, you can just speak those things into existence because Dave called a few minutes later to ask Ann to dinner. A couple of days after, we got pizza on the beltline and haven't looked back since.
Dave pulled off a masterfully surprising proposal at Ann's grandfather's beach house in Wilmington, North Carolina, one of her favorite places in the world. After boating from the house to the ocean, Dave invited Ann to go on a walk and proposed with a ring that had been stealthily hidden in his bathing suit with a carabiner. We celebrated that night with both of our families, fish tacos, and margaritas!
As we prepare for our wedding, we look forward to worshipping together, honoring our families, and celebrating with friends. As excited as we are about our wedding, we are even more excited about our marriage. Our parents and many friends have given us beautiful examples of marriages that love deeply, serve humbly, and live joyfully, and we pray that our marriage would be similarly marked.
