The most festive of the Bengali wedding ceremonies, the Gaye Holud, is a joyous event filled with song, dance, and a remarkable amount of food consumption. Translating to "turmeric on the body," this ceremony is centered around the application of a special paste, predominantly composed of turmeric. You might wonder, why turmeric? The application of turmeric paste, renowned for its antiseptic and skin-enhancing properties, is believed to enhance Anika and Ollie's beauty for the upcoming wedding day. We will also be treated to Bengali sweets, symbolising the sweetness infused into our married life. After the holud, Anika switches outfits for the mehndi, where henna is applied to her arms and feet. Throughout this entire event, family and friends turn into improv comedians and pro dancers, keeping everyone entertained – including the couple, who are wondering if they'll ever get all that turmeric out of their hair before the big day.
