In the summer of 2017, Shelton had just graduated from the University of Montana, and Angela had finished her sophomore year of nursing school. They both landed jobs at The Ranch at Rock Creek in Philipsburg, Montana. He was a fly-fishing and shooting guide, and she was a wrangler. They initially caught each other's eye on the first day at the ranch but remained good friends. Until a rodeo night at Whitefront Bar, Shelton asked her out on their first date-fly-fishing. Their second date, Angela took Shelton riding. Their third date involved gopher hunting and accidentally shooting the sideview mirror of Shelton's truck. Luckily, he still asked her to a fourth date. After that summer, Angela went back to school in Wisconsin and Shelton moved to Alaska. They flew 6 hours back and forth to each other and adopted their Alaskan Powder Hound, Sitka. Angela eventually convinced Shelton to move to Wisconsin. Soon after, he pursued his dream of becoming a chiropractor and started school in Minnesota. The next year, they enjoyed time at her family's cabin on a lake in Wisconsin, where he asked her to marry him on 4th of July. Since, they have been pursuing their career goals. Shelton will graduate in December of 2022 as a Doctor of Chiropractic from Northwestern Health Sciences University, and Angela will graduate in May of 2023 as a Doctor of Nursing Practice (Nurse Practitioner) from the University of Minnesota. They plan to start their life together in Montana.
