We met in Lake Tahoe at a 4th of July party weekend. Andrew became friends with Kylie's Cal Poly friends through work at Apple. Kylie was organizing jetski trips out on the water. Having just met Andrew, Kylie was not about to be stuck in such close quarters with a stranger. Famous last words: "I am NOT riding a jetski with HIM."
Kylie and Andrew had gotten to know each other better since, and each let a new friend into their lives. Kylie traveled to New Zealand and Australia, and they kept in touch. They went out on their first date the first night she got home.
After a Giant's win in San Francisco, we made our relationship official.
Andrew lived in San Francisco for three years, and Kylie was going to grad school and teaching in San Jose. We crafted lots of carefully orchestrated plans around the commuter bus schedule and Friday night traffic jams on Highway 280.
After a year of living together in the South Bay, we had the perfect day in Santa Cruz at our favorite brewery Humble Sea eating food truck tacos and enjoying flights of hazy IPAs. We strolled along sunny West Cliff Drive and drove the scenic route home on a windy, two-lane highway through the mountains. We stopped off at our favorite peaceful vista as mist fell below the tree line, and Andrew popped the question in private.
