Travel

We recommend booking accommodations soon, as things book up quickly on the island! If you're planning to travel solo, we recommend staying at Summercamp or Mansion House hotels. If you're planning to come as a family or a larger group of 3+, it's more cost-effective to rent an AirBnB/Vrbo in Oak Bluffs, Vineyard Haven, or Edgartown.

Hotel

Summercamp

70 Lake Avenue
Oak Bluffs, MA 02557

Located in downtown Oak Bluffs, walking distance from the ferry terminal in Oak Bluffs, as well as shops, restaurants and cafes. We'll be offering shuttles to and from Oak Bluffs (outside Summercamp) and Lambert's Cove Inn. You won't need to have a car on the island if you plan to stay in Oak Bluffs! All of the wedding festivities will be taking place in Oak Bluffs except for the ceremony and reception, where we'll be providing shuttle bus services.

House Or Rental

Airbnb or VRBO

If you plan to have a car on the island, renting a private home is a great option for groups and families.

Travel Note

Fly

In our opinion, if you’re coming from the tristate area (JFK & LGA), Boston (BOS) or D.C. (DCA), flying is the easiest option, but can be the most expensive. From NYC, you are in the air for about 45 minutes before landing at one of the easiest airports to make your way through (MVY). Most times, you don’t even walk through the airport upon landing and just walk out the side-gate from the tarmac. If you are traveling from further than the northeast, there are connecting flights to MVY or you have the option to fly into Boston (BOS) and either rent a car, take a car service/Uber or hop on the Peter Pan bus from the airport to the Woods Hole, MA Steamship Authority Ferry Terminal. From there you can take the ferry to the island with or without a car (if you’ve rented one). See the ferry section for more info regarding the ferry. Rental cars are available at the the MVY airport through Hertz, Budget and Avis. As with all MV things, we recommend booking flights as early as possible to avoid price increases, although there will usually always be some flights available if you’re willing to pay more.

Travel Note

Drive

Although flying may be the quickest and easiest way to get to the Vineyard, we recommend bringing a car if you have one and if you will be staying for more than a few days on the island. The island is big enough that you’ll need a car or use public buses to see all of the great spots and be able to access them easily. Also, rental cars tend to be incredibly expensive if you rent them the day-of, e.g. $250+ per day, so paying the price to bring your car on the ferry is worth it if you want one. To bring your car on the island, drive to Woods Hole, MA and take the Steamship Authority Ferry. Multiple ferries run every day, but since it’s the only way to bring a car on the island, ferries are almost completely booked by April. We recommend booking as early as the end of January. Reservations usually open around January 19th. One-way tickets are $10 per passenger and around $125 per car (depending on the size). If you drive to the ferry and decide to not bring your car, you can park in the overnight parking lot for about $15 a day and take the shuttle to the ferry, which runs every 15 minutes or so. Reservations are not required and you can walk on if you do not bring a car.

Travel Note

Ferry

As mentioned in the drive section, if you decide to not bring a car onto the island or don’t have one, you can either drive to the Steamship Authority Ferry in Wood Hole, MA and leave your car in overnight parking for $15 a day or you can take the Peter Pan bus (from NYC or Boston Logan) that will drop you off directly at the ferry terminal. There are multiple ferries that travel to Martha’s Vineyard, but Steamship Authority from Woods Hole, MA is the fastest (45 minutes) and most commonly used. It drops you off either at Vineyard Haven or Oak Bluffs, depending on what time you choose, but both towns are very close to Summercamp and you can easily walk if you are taking the Oak Bluffs ferry or jump on the public bus or grab an Uber from Vineyard Haven to your destination. Another ferry option is the Rhode Island Fast Ferry that leaves from Quonset, RI. There is parking at the terminal and the trip is one hour and 45 minutes. A third option would be to take the Seastreak Ferry. This ferry leaves either from New Bedford, MA or straight from NYC/NJ. The ferry from New Bedford is about one hour long and the one from NYC/NJ is about a six hour ferry ride. Keep in mind the NYC/NJ ferry only leaves Friday night and returns Sunday. For NJ wedding attendees, this is the same ferry that leaves from Atlantic Highlands/Highlands for NYC, but continues onto the Vineyard.
