Andrew won a speech competition at Hillsdale, beating all of Abbee's friends. She was rooting against him, but she still congratulated him afterward. That was when she met Kerrie and Evie Davidson for the first time. After Abbee walked away, Evie told Andrew, "Marry that woman." Like a good big brother, Andrew decided to give it a shot.
Abbee was sitting alone in the library late one night when Andrew chanced by. With every intention of studying Wendell Berry, Andrew asked if he could join her. The first ten minutes were quiet. Then, Abbee unleashed a train of musings on Shakespeare, The Great Awakening, "Among Us," and why babies should be fat. Andrew learned that Abbee had never seen the movie "Lincoln," gathering the intel he needed to ask her on their first date. Also, Andrew alleges that Abbee was a little flirty, and she denies that. After all, HE was the one who hugged her goodbye that night. (He responds that she "flirted" when she asked him to carry her book bag?!?!)
Andrew asked Abbee, over text, "Hey, wanna watch Lincoln with me?" She was very surprised but accepted. After rescheduling to a breakfast date, Andrew picked Abbee up outside New Dorm and we went to The Coffee Cup Diner (R.I.P.). We bonded over Milton and Flannery O'Connor. At the end of the date, Andrew said, "Well, it looks like you're going to D.C. in the fall, and I'm going in the spring, so senior year," and the exact quote is, "Let's hang out." Needless to say...we did not wait for that.
Andrew invited his family and Abbee's to gather (secretly) in Hillsdale, while enlisting many friends to guard Christ Chapel and prevent Abbee from seeing any of the family too early. After a tour of Central Hall's bell tower, *where Andrew at one point swerved to the side and thrust his hand into his pocket as if he were grabbing a ring box* Abbee thought that he wasn't going to ask. But then, Andrew asked Abbee to go for a walk, where he took her to the private chapel inside Christ Chapel. He got down on one knee and asked her to be his wife (!!)
