Our Story

To say there was chemistry between us would be an understatement

We had Inorganic Chemistry together during the Fall 2016 semester and Stuart sat in the row in front of me. We were introduced through a mutual friend, Haley, when she invited me to study with them. Fast forward to finals week when Stuart walked past me and I thought, "Wow, that Stuart kid is really cute". I decided to ask if I could study with his group of friends for our final. That next semester our group of friends would go to Blue Post on Monday nights to play free pool. It was there that we got closer. I invited Stuart to be my date for my last sorority final, waiting until 15 minutes before the dates were due because I was so nervous. We shared our first kiss at formal and danced the night away. After graduation, our group of friends went to Disney World. It was in Magic Kingdom that Stuart asked me to be his girlfriend thanks to a text from my friend Catalina asking if we were official or not (Thanks, Cat!). We have enjoyed the past few years together caring for each other and supporting each other as we pursued our Master in Chemistry together. - Lexi

The Proposal

It was our last semester of Grad-school, so I knew she would be thinking about when I was going to ask. How was I going to surprise her? I told our close friend Meleah that I needed her help in surprising Lexi. I asked Meleah to invite us to go with her to Bald Head Island one day on our spring break with the excuse of that: since we are leaving after graduation she wanted to go on an adventure with us before we go, hoping that would not make Lexi suspicious (it didn't). Come March 11th it was time and I was nervous; I wanted it to be perfect, but not having been to Bald Head before I was trusting that I would find the perfect place. We rented a golf cart, and started to explore. Our first stop was the lighthouse; when we got there I knew it was the place. There is a small chapel with a beautiful garden off to one side and I couldn't think of a better spot. This was around noon and to keep up the ruse I knew we had to spend the rest of the day exploring before I could ask her; IT WAS TORTURE! We had a great time though; driving around seeing amazing houses, walking the beach, enjoying the weather and then I said I wanted to go back to the lighthouse for some pictures. I had brought my DSLR with me, so Lexi didn't think twice about it. When we got there she wanted to go in the gift shop first. I wanted to yell we were so close, for ten painful minutes I walked though the gift shop with her pointing out cute decorations and funny t-shirts. Finally she was done and we walked back over to the garden. I took some pictures with my DSLR and Meleah told us to get some pictures together. I took off my backpack, pulled out the ring box (keeping it out of sight) and then went stand next to Lexi. My heart was beating a thousand times a minute. After a few normal pictures I knew it was time; I let go of her, turned, and got down on one knee. It is a bit of a blur for the next few minutes. I just remember smiles, a few tears, and and overwhelming feeling of joy.
