The wedding dress code is semi-formal (all lengths of dresses welcome; ties are optional for men). Keep in mind both the ceremony and reception will be outside on the grass. The welcome party dress code is casual (anything but activewear or loungewear). The party will be outside on a stone terrace unless raining. While I overdress for pretty much every event I attend, John has leaned towards a Cali casual in recent years 🤙.
Please RSVP to the welcome party and wedding by July 1st on the RSVP page. You’ll be asked to select your dinner appetizer and entree choices and indicate transportation needs if staying at a hotel.
While we prefer you leave the kiddos home, please let John or me know if this prevents you from being able to celebrate with us.
Yes - all wedding events will be outdoors. The plan is to only have the reception under a tent, weather permitting. The rain plan for the wedding itself would be an adventure that I’m hoping we can all avoid.
Roundtrip shuttle buses will be provided to the wedding at Hagley on Saturday from select hotels listed on the Travel page (Hotel du Pont and Hyatt Place Wilmington Riverfront). More detailed information will be provided upon hotel check-in. Transportation to the welcome party on Friday will not be provided.
Parking is available onsite for both the welcome party (Delaware Art Museum) and the wedding (Hagley Museum); however, cars cannot be left overnight at either location. The main entrance to Hagley Museum will be closed, and you’ll need to enter at 298 Buck Rd., Wilmington, DE. Please note this is a different address than what automatically appears when entering Hagley into your gps.
The ceremony will start at 5pm so plan to arrive ~4:45pm. We’ll be taking photos on the property, so please don’t arrive before 4:30pm. Roundtrip shuttle buses will be provided for out-of-town guests staying at select hotels listed on the Travel page. More detailed information on timing of the shuttles will be provided upon hotel check-in.
We are not planning a legit after party so bring all your energy to the wedding itself! If you'd like to venture out afterwards, we recommend Iron Hill Brewery for those staying at the Hyatt on the riverfront and recommend The Nomad Bar for those staying at Hotel du Pont and The Quoin.
There are many places to eat in walking and close driving distance from the hotels. We made a list on Google Maps of suggested coffee shops and restaurants in downtown Wilmington and the riverfront to help narrow your search. The invitation features a black and white version of my close friend Laura Agra’s painting of Valentine’s Day flowers John sent to us while she was visiting La Jolla and he was out of town. Then, Morgan Irish (@morganirishstudio) worked her graphic design magic to transform the painting into the invite you received. I’m so lucky to have such inspiring artists in my life.
