It won't quite be October, but a spooky excursion is always appropriate in our book. St. Elmo is a former gold mining camp in Chaffee County, founded in 1880. Gold and Silver Mining brought many people to the area. St. Elmo used to be a hub for supplies arriving by train. It's said that St. Elmo's Population rode the last train out of town and never came back.
Whether you're on foot or in the car, Browns Canyon is a must-see. Browns Canyon National Monument, including the Browns Canyon Wilderness Study Area (WSA), covers approximately 22,000 acres of federally- and state-managed public lands in Chaffee County, Colorado. The wide open canyon in contrast to the towering mountain backdrop is a view you'll want in the background of your selfies.
