How did they meet??

Oh the age of online dating......

Matt and Amy met on Tinder in 2019. From their first date of burgers and people watching at Mojo's in downtown Raleigh to sunflower picking before Amy went to school at UNCW....Matt and Amy found a love for each other through new experiences and laughter. Their favorite memories early on were spontaneous dates to new Raleigh attractions or a 5am wake-up calls for a road-trip to the beaches of NC.

The Engagement

It all started on a Saturday before a hockey game in January of 2022. Matt and his dad went shopping the morning of the game; to hopefully pick out the ring Amy now wears on her finger. Later that day, the two joined Amy and Matt's mom at PNC arena, where they watched the Hurricanes become victorious against the New Jersey Devils. Matt still questions how he kept it a secret during that game and the months to follow. After a few months of waiting, Matt went to pick up the ring in March. Now the planning began for the big day! Matt grew up going to Wrightsville beach with his family and Amy attended school at UNCW minutes away from the popular beach. Due to this, it was only fitting, that this is where the moment would happen that would change the rest of both of their lives. Matt spent weeks planning, booking, and coordinating the day; making reservations at the Blockade Runner, Oceanic, and even convincing a friend to come take pictures of the big moment. While it did rain most of the day, this didn't prevent the two from spending the morning before the proposal making the most out of it. From wine at the hotel bar and a spa morning at the sauna, to even at one point going shopping, where Amy momentarily got a fake ring stuck on her finger at a popular department store, trying on different pieces of jewelry. Matt was nervous for the weather to cease but had made a backup plan at Oceanic in case things didn't go as planned. About 30 minutes before walking down to the beach, the rain finally ceased and out from the overcast day began a rainbow over the Wilmington harbor. When they finally got down to the beach facing the harbor, Matt began his speech before the question. "I have loved you from the day I met you and I have known for a long time now that I want to spend the rest of my life with you" he said to Amy. "I know" she replied, in only a way Amy can. With a smile now on his face from this comment, Matt got down on one knee and said "no, I'm serious. I want to spend the rest of my life with you. Will you marry me?" Of course, a resounding "yes", ensued. Matt and Amy then enjoyed a dinner at their favorite restaurant, Oceanic and a walk on the beach afterwards back to the hotel.

5 years of Love

The story of building the start of their lives together

From their first date in June of 2019, to this special day in November of 2024, Matt and Amy have shared many special memories together. During 2019 and into 2020, Amy attended UNCW, where the two made the most out of the time they had together during this long distance relationship. Matt during this time was completing his second associates degree with Wake Technical. Matt was also pursuing his career of officiating professional soccer throughout the southern USA. Amy would attend many games during this time, even traveling with him to Charlotte for a few games in the fall of 2020. In the fall of 2020, Amy became a certified nurse aid (CNA) and soon after began her first job at Wake Med Regional Hospital. In February of 2021, Matt began his career where he works as a Regional Learning and Development Leader for a nationwide logistics company, TQL. In the early summer of 2021, they adopted a dog who they lovingly call Aho after a Carolina Hurricanes player (their favorite sports team to watch together). Later that fall, they decided to move in together where they now live in South West Raleigh. Amy went back to school in the Spring of 2022 to pursue becoming a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), completing this program in December of that year. In the spring of 2023, Amy began a new job at Duke Regional Hospital as an LPN. Shortly after, she returned back to school, pursuing her Associates Degree in Nursing, completing this program in May of 2024. Amy currently works as an RN and is already looking to return to school to complete her bachelors and master's in nursing starting in the Fall of 2025.
