It was New Years Eve 2020: Josh was in Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina on the beach in shorts, and Amy was in Wausau, Wisconsin on the ski hill bundled in layers. Maria, a friend of Amy's from college and a recent acquaintance of Josh, had an idea. At the beach house, Maria says to Josh, I have a friend you should meet. Then she texts Amy: "Sooo there's this guy that I'm at a beach house with, and I think you two would be perfect together." Nine days later, Maria arranges a "small get together." Unbeknown to Amy and Josh, it was a triple date. What started out as a brunch in Arlington, Virginia slowly turned into an all day affair. Brunch conversation quickly shifted into what next, so naturally the crew of six went to Whole Foods because who doesn't go to the grocery store on a date? After picking up snacks and drinks, the group headed to Josh and Greg's (Josh's roommate and groomsman) apartment where they spent the evening talking, watching football, eating, and at one point Greek dancing. By the end of the night, it was clear this wouldn't be the last date for Amy and Josh. They traded numbers and haven't stopped talking since.
"You didn't want to propose in Chicago because you thought you were going to get mugged." Amy and Josh were in Chicago for a two day mini-vacation after Christmas. After getting some high quality, amazing pizza at Pequods, the two went downtown to stroll along Chicago, see the notorious Bean, the fountain, then walk along the water towards the Adler Planetarium. Josh visited to the planetarium before and had said how he wanted to see it again because the view was that impressive. As they walk along the water, Amy starts laughing and says "you didn't want to propose in Chicago because you thought you'd get mugged." Josh laughed and said yes, that's true. A few minutes later, right along the Lake Michigan edge, with the Chicago skyline behind them, Josh asks three strangers to take their picture. As they're smiling, Josh steps away from Amy, causing her to nearly fall over into to the Lake. As he prevents her potentially catastrophic tumble, Josh gets down on one knee and says, "I know I said I wasn't going to propose in Chicago, but....will you marry me?" And with that, the two were engaged. To celebrate, the two indulged in one of the best dinners of their lives at Alinea in Chicago.
