Caleb and I lived across the hall from each other on the sixth floor of our dormitory residence hall in our second year of college. At this point in time, Caleb and I had not talked to each other more than a few passing conversations in the school's cafeteria. On a cold, winter Friday night, my roommate, Sydney Vetter, and I were throwing a goodbye party for one of our friends that was leaving the college after finals. We all wore "groutfits" (outfits that are entirely compromised of gray clothing) in honor of a friend. Our good friend, Joel Arackal, did something to upset me and Sydney so we locked him out of our room- if you know Joel, you know that he likes to get under people's skin. To trick me and Sydney into opening our door, Joel knocked on Caleb's door: "Amy and Sydney got mad at me and locked me out, all of my stuff is in their room. Can you ask for it back, they won't suspect you?" *Caleb knocks on door* *We open door, confused why Caleb is knocking* *Joel ducks under Caleb and sprints into room* *Joel invites Caleb to play cards with us, as long as he wears the required "groutfit"* The rest of the night, Caleb sat next to me in our matching "groutfits." We passed cards back and forth while nobody was paying attention so that we could each win first and second. The rest was history.
