Question

What's the Dress Code? What's the Dress Code?

Answer

A touch of 'Italian Glam'! We’re indulging our love of La Dolce Vita and leaning into cocktail hour. Sharp suits, chic dresses, a fabulous earring. Dress for a lively party! Our wedding is at the end of March, and North Yorkshire weather is anyone’s guess—it could be snowing, it could be sunny! We're anticipating that the wedding will be indoors, apart from the journey between Church and Reception. Hats are welcomed but not obligatory. If you feel fabulous in it, wear it!

Question

Is there anything I can't wear?Is there anything I can't wear?

Answer

The venue is a stunning historic home, and to protect the floors, the owners have kindly requested that stilettos are not worn. If you already have your dream shoes ready, we’ll have heel guards on hand (not the height of fashion, we know, but the owners will insist). On a similar theme, the walk from St Mary’s Church to Birdsall House is about 10 minutes on foot on a solid tarmac road with a gravel drive. If you'd rather not trek in heels, please bring flats - or hop in the stylish transport we’ll have waiting...

Question

Are children invited?Are children invited?

Answer

Unfortunately, other than young babes in arms, we can only accommodate children from the wedding party.

Question

How do we get to the venue? How do we get to the venue?

Answer

If travelling from London, there are regular trains to York and from there it's a short train to Malton. The venue is a 10-15 minute drive from Malton station so you might want to think about pre-booking a taxi. For those travelling by train or staying nearby, please see the taxi firm numbers on the Travel page. If you are staying in York, you can take the train to Malton (24 minutes) and a taxi from there.

Question

How do we get to the venue by car?How do we get to the venue by car?

Answer

If you are travelling on the A64 from York (towards Scarborough) take the exit signposted to Malton and Hovingham and continue on the road into Malton until you get to the traffic lights. At the traffic lights turn right, drive past Morrisons, over the bridge and immediately after the railway level crossing take the left road signposted to Beverley. At the mini round about turn right, signposted to Birdsall and Langton. (Fletchers Butchers on the corner) Continue along this road, up The Gallops out of Malton and go straight over the crossroads to Birdsall. Follow the road, through the start of Birdsall Village (follow the white railings). You will see the road turns sharply to the left and up a hill past the Church. If you are looking for Birdsall House you will see the main white gates at the top of the hill before the Estate Office. There is a black and white sign saying Birdsall House. Follow the drive, go left at the small crossroads in the park and start following the avenue of trees. Follow the drive (it will bend left away from the trees) and keep to the left when any forks in the road appear. You will see a black sign with white lettering saying Birdsall House, follow the drive and you’ll soon see the house. Parking will be clearly marked and cars can be collected on Sunday.

Question

What time does the wedding end? What time does the wedding end?

Question

Is there a gift list?Is there a gift list?

Answer

Yes!! It is now ready, here: https://www.weddingshop.com/Buy/View/225029 The idea is you buy from the site, and the gifts are all delivered together when we are home after honeymoon. You can pick from our list, or go ‘off list’ if you don’t see anything you like. Some things are set up as a ‘Group Gift’ where you can make a contribution to something, or club together with others. You can also contribute to honeymoon / house decoration funds. Please please please do not feel obliged!!! We’re just so happy for everyone to be with us on the day, and we know that it’s a big expense already for everyone to be there.
