Amelia and Peter's love story could have started years ago. They grew up six minutes apart in Kansas City. Both of their families were members of Cure of Ars Parish in Overland Park. He went to Rockhurst High School and she went to Notre Dame de Sion, Rockhurst's sister school. But they didn't meet during childhood and ran in different crowds in high school. It wouldn't be until after college that they reconnected on the ever wonderful social media app - Instagram. The pandemic was in full swing, and it was the week of the Red River Rivalry game in October 2020. Pete was a Longhorn deep in Oklahoma Sooner territory and had to display his Texas pride on Instagram, reminding everyone of UT's nail-biting victory from 2018. Amelia, having crushed on Pete since summer before college, saw her chance to both make contact and showcase her best "Horns Down" impression, so she messaged him about his Instagram story. Pete responded, and the two made a bet on the game. The stakes were simple - the loser had to buy the other a bottle of wine. Pete saw it as a win-win either way, and when the Sooners won, Amelia was a bottle of wine richer that day. The two kept in constant contact after that game. Amelia got a new job in Milwaukee and Pete was looking for new opportunities in Dallas. While they continued to get to know each other over text and social media, they tried multiple times to see each other, but life continued to get in the way. Until all the stars aligned. Pete got a new job in Dallas in summer of 2021 and tried one last ditch effort to meet up in Kansas City - and came up short one final time. Then, as Amelia calls it, she decided to throw a "Hail Mary," and told Pete that if he were ever able to come to Chicago that she would make time to see him. As fate would have it, Pete had five weeks of "funemployment" before he started his new job, and Amelia had serendipitously decided to take an entire week of vacation in June (something she had never done before). It was finally a date! Three weeks after their first date in Chicago, Amelia flew to Dallas and the two made it official. They dated long distance from Dallas to Milwaukee for nearly two years. Then Amelia received job offer in Dallas and everything started falling into place. Little did Amelia know, Pete had plans of his own. The two got engaged overlooking Lake Michigan in Milwaukee in July 2023. Now, they cannot wait to celebrate with the people who supported them, loved them and encouraged them throughout their journey to find each other. Cheers to the Future Mr. and Mrs. Stanley!
