We met on a popular online dating app called Bumble back in the Fall of 2021. Amber was just getting ready to move away from Northern California and start a new job in Colorado. Ulysses was living two hours south of her before the move. After a few weeks of chatting online and creating a wonderful connection, they talked about meeting during Amber's move from Cali to Colorado. The timing didn't work out, and sadly a couple weeks later they decided they didn't work either. Amber deleted his number and decided to move on, but just felt depressed and sad after they stopped talking. She later learned he felt similar during this time, but he kept her number on a hunch. By the end of November Amber even started dating someone else after things with Ulysses seemed all but over. Fast forward to New Years, and Amber got a "Happy New Year" text from an unknown number. When she asked who it was, the reply was, "this is Ulysses." She was curious and she re-added his number after that, but didn't hear anything more and she forgot about it. By Spring Amber was single and NOT ready to mingle. The Spring and Summer held some family health issues, a move to Texas, and then a very difficult time at work setting up a new Ranch for her job. During the thick of this stressful season, out of the blue came a text from Ulysses in "pre-July" (June 30th for us normal folks) asking how she was doing. Having just come to a final resolution with her previous relationship just a week or two before, her heart was still heavy and sad. Between the emotions of moving on, and the pressure from work she tried to discourage Ulysses in every way possible from reconnecting. She was adamant she could only handle a friendship at that time, and he respectfully agreed. It didn't take long for the friendship to reconnect and grow quicker than it had before. The deeper they grew, the more comfortable she felt with Ulysses, and he with her. Flirting, turned into the occasional video chat, the occasional chat turned into daily chats, and daily chats into epically long video and phone conversations. By October of 2022, Ulysses was overseas, Amber was in Idaho after resigning from her job in Texas/Colorado, and by the 25th they both knew there was something there that they wanted to explore deeper, and decided to become an unofficially official couple. It was January of 2023 before they met in person for the first time. They made it a priority to meet as soon as Ulysses was stateside. They spent two weeks together and after the nerves settled, they knew they were in for a special relationship. Through 2023 they continued to date long distance and talk about their future. By that summer Ulysses knew he wanted to marry Amber. She was still scared, but wanted that too. As summer came to a close and her fears became smaller and smaller regarding marrying Ulysses. One day after one of his visits to Idaho she happened to look up her favorite butterfly. For many years she thought its name was called an "Emperor Butterfly," but in her research she found another butterfly that she realized she had loved more. All fears and doubts about marrying Ulysses left after learning that the symbol she had held in a place of importance for her life, and the theme of her future wedding long before even meeting Ulysses, was in fact called the Papilio Ulysses butterfly. So they once again became unofficially officially engaged and started planning their future together, and the rest, as they say, is history.
