We met over dinosaurs

June 2015

Back in June 2015, Amber was playing an online video game with some long-time friends. Someone new was invited to the game--described to Amber as "that's Joe; he's good people." First Amber and Joe played this dinosaur game together--and playing games turned to talking, and talking turned into staying up all night together (granted, Amber was working night shifts--so really, it was Joe who stayed up all night, just to keep Amber company). Then--we started dating (though never having met in person; that didn't happen until June of 2017). Joe moved to Utah in August of 2018 to be with Amber for reals--and now, we're getting married! It's been a spectacular adventure, and we can't wait to keep playing games and having fun together.

Riddle

This is the riddle that Joe had to solve in order to marry Amber

Tossed in water, isn’t drowned, Within a tub it’s often bound Its living cousins are meant to fly This one never even tries Often yellow or strangely dressed Part of a betrothal quest

Vows

For those who watched but couldn't hear our custom vows, here's what we promised each other:

Joe: Amber Mayfield. I love you, secure in the knowledge that you are my best friend, my kind, wonderful mac and cheese mate. I can't believe how lucky I am to marry a person with whom I share so much and who complements me completely. This ring is a promise that you will never have to face the world alone, we will get through life together because we got this. Today, I take you as my wife, my best friend, and the love of my life for as long as we both shall live. I love you, and I like you. Amber: Joe Cardinal, you make me laugh, you make me think, and above all, you make me happy. With this ring, I give you my promise, that from this day forward you shall not walk alone. May my heart be your shelter and my arms be your home. I vow to protect you from all the ills of the world, even if a scientist invented a way to clone dinosaurs and the dinosaurs escaped from his zoo and then they came after us – I would protect you as well as I could manage from said dinosaurs. And would definitely try to convince you to let us keep one. I don’t really think it would take much convincing. If you turn into a zombie or a vampire, I promise to let you bite me so we can be undead together. I promise to protect you from carbon freezing and promise to protect you from the Dark Side, through hyperspace and into the far reaches of the galaxy. I love you so much. Let’s be weird together.

For all the days along the way
