The Big Question-as told by Amber

If you did not know, the movie Dirty Dancing is one of my absolute favorite movies ! Early on in our relationship, I told Alex about this and he followed up with telling me that his family actually vacationed at the very lodge the movie was filmed at! This was news to me as I did not know you could stay there but of course I told him we needed to go! Christmas of 2020, my present was a weekend trip to Mountain Lake Lodge the following July. Fast forward to this time and we were on our way! I was definitely hoping that this trip would be THE trip because how could a place get more perfect than that of the iconic love story between Baby and Johnny. Friday we stopped at an adorable winery/Inn and had yummy flatbreads and wine on the mountain side. There was even a wedding be set up while we were there which made me hope that it was a sign he was going to ask. Saturday we went on a nearby hike to a beautiful waterfall and then headed back to the hotel. The grounds of the hotel have plaques that depict where different scenes of the movie were filmed as well as fun facts-so naturally we went on our own little tour reading each and every one! One of those stops is the very gazebo where so many fun/dancing scenes took place where I was hoping to get some cute pictures of us. We weren’t able to get the pictures before dinner but the food was simply amazing and there was even a live pianist performing. At this point I had given up hope that the proposal would happen because there had been many places throughout our time there that I thought it would happen but didn’t and it our weekend there was about to end. Much to my surprise, Alex insisted on taking pictures down at the gazebo and boy am I glad he did ! He captured the very moment he pulled the ring out, got down on one knee, and asked me to spend the rest of my life with him! Of course I said yes and we celebrated with a complimentary bottle of champagne at the hotel bar after ! I am so excited to get to share the rest of my life with my very best friend and I cannot wait for all the adventures we will get to go on!

The Big Question-as told by Alex

Our story starts with our hero, Alex. The day was Christmas day 2020. I got Amber a trip to Mountain Lake lodge as a gift because we both really like the movie Dirty Dancing. Little did she know, I had ulterior motives. She was happy with the gift but it wasn't until July, so I had time to work on my second plan-to propose and make her mine forever. I knew the ring style she wanted so I had it made and shipped to my parents house. It gets delivered and I get a call from my mother and father. They ask me whats in the box over and over. I ultimately have to tell them because a.) They’re my parents I should let them know I'm making a major life decision b.) The package was not discreet. I told them, they were happy for me and super excited. It was awesome to know Amber was loved by my parents unconditionally like they loved me. "Great" I thought, the only other thing was asking her father Scott. I went over to Scotts to help him take down a tree. After we had a "hard work beer". While we sat there I said I had a second reason to be there and that I wanted to ask Amber to marry me. He said I was basically already a part of the family and he was excited. He gave me his blessing and I was on my way. Everything was going to plan. The day of the trip came and I had the ring hidden in my truck so she could never find it. On our way, we stopped at a winery (naturally). It was a perfect summer night. I was nervous but knew I had time to pick a perfect spot to do it. We enjoyed our night and looked forward to getting to Kellerman's Mountain House (that's what its called in Dirty Dancing) We got there and checked in. Just like I remembered except the lake was gone but it was still beautiful. We did some hiking and site seeing. While on our hike, we found out Jasmine, our dog, had eaten a sock and needed surgery. She was attempting to sabotage this because I guess I forgot to ask for her blessing. Amber was distraught so obviously me popping the question was, no pun intended, out of the question. The next day we planned to see all the spots from the movie. I knew one of these would be perfect for the ol' proposal thing. Amber was waiting for an update on Jasmine and I was running out of time. We stopped at the place where "the lift" was done in the water of the nonexistent lake. I thought this is a pretty spot, I should do it here. Im nervous, shes gorgeous, mood is perfect, I get ready to pop the question when some dude and his wife walk by and start to chat then he drops some knowledge on us that when the lake drained they found a body "over yonder". Great-mood ruined. I did not want to be the guy that proposed where a body was found. So I held off. We went to dinner and Amber finally got news that Jasmine was out of surgery and doing well. She sighed with relief;I thought to myself, this has to be it. I asked her if she wanted to take a stroll after dinner down to the gazebo. She obliged. We got there and set up a camera for pictures. I thought “this is perfect. I will take the remote and I'll capture the whole thing”. Lighting was perfect, she was perfect, so I got down on my knee and had this whole speech planned out. Emotions ran over me as I looked into the windows of her soul and all I could muster was: " will you…uh...marry me"? What was that? I was trying to get out words but nothing came out. No way she says yes as this grown man is basically crying in front of her. To my suprise, she said yes. I ask, really? She said yes again and then emotions came flowing out. A huge weight was lifted off my shoulders. We ended the night with a bottle of champagne, officially engaged.I don't know why I doubted it for a second, I was asking the love of my life to marry me. Someone who has been there for me through everything. The most selfless person I have ever met. Looking back, I've never been so sure in my life that I should do something. I look forward to making her mine forever.
