Somehow though, after missing each other’s assigned duty stations through our fathers’ work, we finally met when introduced by a mutual friend. “I got her number with a smooth pickup line.” “I loved having new friends so I said sure.” After we both moved away to new bases in states more than 2,000 miles apart, we lost contact with our friends. The life of a Army brat. Yet, we stayed connected. Texting moved to calls. Calls to video chats. Skype sessions lasting long after both fell asleep doing homework or playing games. “I didnt want to stop talking to him. Every day was better than the last.” Then, after freshman year of college, the calls finally stopped. It wasnt until a lone, apology email, three years later in 2017 that we began to speak to each other again. “I actually stalked her social media sometimes... Is she seeing someone? What is she doing now?” After a quick reconciliation, we met face to face for the first time since February 2011. And the rest, is history...
