Alyssa's side: You know when you meet someone and feel like you've known each other forever, possibly lifetimes? I hope you do. That's how it was when I met Paige. We met on the Disc Golf Pro Tour and spent many early mornings working together, her playing Disc Golf and me photographing it. Even in a big group of people we always gravitated towards each other. I want to share with you the moment I knew Paige was special. One morning only a couple months after we'd met, I found a warm shower (which were few and far between at the time) so I felt on top of the world, ready to go for the day. What I hadn't planned for was how quickly summer had turned to fall and how quickly my hair would turn to a frozen icicle. By the time I got to the teepad I was regretting having showered at all. *enter Paige* "Would you like some extra clothes?" she offered, clearly spotting the suffering on my face. While anyone else would be worried about themselves and their round ahead, she offered me her hoodie and beanie. Let me express that, by any other standard, we were NOT at give-your-clothes-to-your-freezing-friend level, especially considering she was about to be out in the elements for the next 4 hours. In a world where most people are absorbed in their own life and needs, Paige is the exception. I quickly learned that this was her nature: observant and generous to her core. She also may have had a crush on me, but I'll let her tell her side :) Paige: In July of 2017 at The Idlewild Open (hole 17 to be specific) she caught my eye. I don’t know what it was about that specific moment, but I did know that my upcoming putt did not seem important at all. I walked over to her with a sense of urgency, I needed to meet her. As I introduced myself, extending my hand to shake hers, she chuckled and said “I know who you are, it is my job to photograph you.” Duh, nice one Paige. Her smile and energy was intoxicating. We talked the entire time up hole 18’s fairway about the total solar eclipse coming in the next couple days and I did everything besides straight up begging her to make sure she was going to come. We exchanged phone numbers and boom, we already had plans to hang out while neither of us were working and I could figure out just what it was about her that I was so drawn to. As we floated on the river in the middle of the forest, we giggled, howled as the moon covered the sun, jumping into the water like children. We shared stories, feelings, and an experience that brought so much awe to this life. This felt like the first time I really appreciated the living world around me. Alyssa’s excitement was so pure, she was so open about each thing she saw and felt. And when I would share something I was looking at, she would encourage me to really vocalize what was catching my attention. This wasn't very easy at first. No one had ever tried to dig this deep into my brain, not even me. As I was learning more about her, I was also learning more about myself. We didn’t leave each other's side the entire day. She was already turning into my favorite person. I wanted to stay in her orbit. After this weekend we chatted every day. Anytime we could spend time together, I was determined to make this happen. I loved time alone with her as she would challenge me to open up to her in ways I wasn’t yet comfortable doing in public. And when we were in group settings I realized she had this same effect on countless others. So many times I have seen her completely embraced in a tearful hug with someone, staring into someone's eyes giving them the love they need, or being that friend that is genuinely listening. Every time I fall deeper in love with her. We are looking forward to sharing more stories and celebrating our love with you all in November!
