Amidst the natural beauty of the Na Pali Coast, Rick took me on an unforgettable journey where he surprised me with a proposal that I will always cherish. It was 4am on 11-11 when we embarked on a 2-hour drive to Kōkeʻe State Park to catch the early morning sun over Kalalau Valley. The scenic route to Kōkeʻe State Park is renowned as it ascends steeply up the hills through Waimea Canyon, making it the most picturesque drive on the island. We reached our destination at around 6am. Rather than settling for the lookout point, we ventured off the beaten path to explore an unmarked trail through the lush, thick brush. We eventually found ourselves in a lama tree forest, with a steep decline to traverse, leading us to a grassy clearing with breathtaking views. The sun began to peek over the mountain and illuminate the open abyss of the Kalalau Valley. Rick set up his camera and suggested we take a photo. He then took my hand and carefully led me to the edge of the cliff where he got down on one knee! In that moment, a double rainbow appeared, stretching far along the Na Pali Coast, as if it was natures way of joining in our celebration. The significance of this wondrous sight was not lost on us, for it represented hope, good fortune, and harmony.
