How We Met Brennen and Allyse first met in Oakland, California in the summer of 2019. Allyse was in the middle of a demanding residency at Kaiser Oakland with very little free time. However, while swiping through the app, “Hinge,” Allyse’s interest was piqued by a photo of a young, strapping man being chased by a wild buffalo. His name was Brennen and he happened to live across the bay in San Francisco where he worked as a firefighter for the city. After a very brief exchange of messages, common ground on a mutual love of tequila was established and a date promptly set up. Brennen arrived 30 minutes early to the date….Allyse 20 minutes late. The Proposal After an amazing 4 years of travel, family time, and new adventures together, Brennen started to get daily reminders that they were still not engaged. Taking the hint, Brennen planned a trip to Kauai where he planned to pop the question. However, a few weeks prior to the trip, Brennen's freshly torn ACL threatened to derail the plans, or so he thought. Allyse had no intention of her vacation being ruined and dragged Brennen on one of the most treacherous hikes on the island of Kauai because the travel website said it was a “must do”. During the 8 mile trek through torrential downpours and over slick rocks, Brennen fell twice; once into the river and also face first into a pile of mud. Allyse simply laughed and kept on hiking. Brennen was in no mood for a proposal that day… Thankfully, Brennen planned the next day's activity, kayaking up the Wailua river, followed by a short hike into the jungle where the couple had a hidden waterfall all to themselves. Brennen got down on one very sore knee and was finally able to ask what he had been wanting to.
