Roman and Alli first met in middle school at Mountain View. As 12 year old kids, they shared their first kiss at the County Fair under the stars and lights of the Ferris wheel. Little did they know what their future together would hold.
Alli almost swiped left on Roman on Tinder before stopping and thinking, “Is this the same Roman I kissed at the fair in middle school?” Luckily, they both swiped right! He shared his music with her. She shared her art and poetry with him. They both realized pretty quickly that what they thought was a reconnection of old friends was bound for something much deeper.
Because of Covid, 2020 and 2021 for many people were years of isolation, but for Roman and Alli they were months spent falling in love. Together they spent their time adventuring around Northern California, Oregon, up and down the California coast. While their very first date was a drive to Red Bluff for Covid tests, their second date was spent in Chico guitar shopping so that Roman could teach Alli to play. Both lovers of the outdoors, they spent a lot of time together hiking to waterfalls, exploring Whiskeytown trails, golfing, snowboarding, and paddle boarding. They played music, wrote songs, painted, and enjoyed sharing memories from their past and dreaming about goals for their future. They became apart of each other’s families, and Roman developed a close bond with Alli’s children. Christmas 2020, their first together, Roman gifted Alli a record player and a Pink Floyd record commemorating the first song he taught her on guitar. Alli gave Roman an “Open When…” box filled with envelopes and small packages with titles like “…you want to see the world” or “…you feel sick”. The rules were that he could only open an envelope when the words printed on it were true. One of the envelopes was titled “…when you fall in love”. He kept that envelope in his pocket and opened it later that afternoon when they shared the first of many “I love you”s.
Early 2022, after buying a house and moving in together, Roman decided to start teaching music full time. Alli was able to leave her job and they pursued their dream of opening a music studio together. With Roman teaching and Alli running the business, they found they made the perfect team not only in their career but also in life. On November 19th, they hosted their first student recital. With a huge turn out from their Goddard Music family and surrounded by friends and family, Roman ended the recital with a surprise performance. With the help of Mikey (their drum instructor) on drums, Roman’s cousin Ian on bass, and Alli’s daughter Lexi doing back up vocals, Roman played guitar and sang a beautiful song he wrote just for the occasion. As if his proposal song wasn’t enough to have the crowd in tears, the real finale was his leap from the stage to where Alli was sitting. There, he dropped down on one knee, pulled out a ring, and asked for her hand in marriage as their audience cheered.
That brings us to the wedding day. Roman and Alli will be saying “I do” at Roman’s childhood home and family property on Saturday, May 27th of 2023. The wedding ceremony will be followed by a short cocktail hour around the pool then a reception with dinner, drinks, and dancing under the oak trees on the other side of the property. We hope that friends and family will join us to celebrate our love and unity.
