Lahenga, Salwar Kameez, or Saree
Wearing a lahenga includes a top, a long skirt that is often embroidered and pleated, and a long stole or scarf called a dupatta draped across the body. We recommend this for those wanting to be on the dancefloor all night! Another traditional dress is the salwar kameez, which includes the salwar (trousers) and a kameez (long shirt or tunic). This is another great option for comfort and dancing. A saree is a 5 meters long unsewn fabric (of silk, cotton, chiffon etc.) with patterns, gracefully draped over the body. This is the most formal option if you prefer more elegance. Lastly, for shoes, any form of ladies chappals (sandals), or shoe or heels of your preference, go great with all three dresses. If this is all new to you, don't worry, if you go to any Indian garment store, they'll be able to help you through the three options!
Kurta
Wearing a kurta consists of two pieces of garments. The first is a kurta, a loose long shirt almost reaching the knees. The second is the pajama, a lightweight drawstring trouser. Additionally, you have the option to add a traditional stole / scarf to your kurta for an added flair! Kohlapuri chappals, or Indian silk or leather slip on shoes called naagra, are the most preferred footwear for this type of attire, but any smart casual shoes/sandals will work equally well. Again, any Indian garment store will be more than happy to help you find the best outfit to your liking!
