Meet Cute (or not?)

Way back in 2014, Cameron and I had just started college at SIU. (Go Salukis!) It was Halloween weekend and I was going to a party with my friends. Originally I had planned a cute costume, but this Georgia girl was unprepared for Midwest cold weather. I had a friend offer me her costume since she had to work that night. It was a cow costume. Full pajama onesie and hat cow costume. So I go to the Halloween party (as a cow) and get introduced to a friend-of-a-friend named Cameron. He was dressed as a lumberjack and was pretty shy, but very cute. We chatted a little bit and went our separate ways, I don't think the cow onesie was the greatest first impression. In our sophomore year, we had several classes together and would walk back to our dorms together every day. We attended basketball games together and were part of the same friend group for a while. My thick skull never picked up on the flirting he SWEARS he did during those years. We eventually drifted apart as we got further into our studies. Flash forward to April of 2018, the stars align and we run into each other at Hangar 9 and he texted me the next day asking me on a date. I ended up having to cancel on him several times before we were able to go on our first date, and I was surprised he didn't give up! I remember calling my mom after our second date and telling her we went kayaking and then watched Planet Earth; her exact words were "I think I'm gonna like this boy."  We've been laughing and growing together ever since. One decade from when we met, I now get to marry my best friend! -Alison

Putting a Ring on It

New Year’s Eve 2022

I got Alison’s ring a few days before the start of the new year and had planned to ask her to marry me exactly at midnight on New Year's Eve. I had shown the ring to my best man Eli earlier in the day and told him that I planned on asking Alison that night. After hours of playing games and having a good time with Eli, it was almost midnight so we went into the living room and turned on the TV to follow along with the ball drop. As I was working up the nerve to get down on my knee and ask her, one of our TV trays got knocked over on to us, spilling a glass of champagne all over the two of us. Alison then immediately ran upstairs to change, ruining my chance to ask her right at midnight. I didn’t really want to wait but I worried the moment had passed. When she came back downstairs I decided I didn’t need it to be perfect so I just got down on my knee and asked her to marry me, knowing she was going to say yes. -Cameron
