Question

How did we meet?

Answer

When Alicia first moved to Milwaukee her (at the time) new friend and soon to be roommate Rachael set us up!

Question

What was your first date?

Answer

Which first date? Just kidding! Josh asked Alicia out to dinner after being set up for a blind date by Rachael. He took her out to Balzac, a wine bar and restaurant in Milwaukee. Given Alicia’s love of wine and food, this was the perfect first date. The date continued when Alicia’s roommate Hannah would ask the two to join her out for drinks at MadPlanet. A riverwest staple. They danced the night away. The two would part ways for some time, and then in comes Rachael again… Rachael started bringing Alicia to dinner at GoodKind for their half priced bottles of wine nights. Josh worked at Goodkind, and would eventually become sous chef there and would come say hi and send treats out to them when they came in. Slowly Alicia would realize she had a major crush on him and would ask him out the fall of 2019. Our second first date was in Brookfield at the movie theaters watching a TERRIBLE Christmas movie. Movie dates are a staple favorite date night of ours ever since.

Question

What was the day of your elopement like?

Answer

Cute, simple, and very low pressure. Just how we like it! We rented an Airbnb in Bayview, our friends Alexis, Brianna and their husbands Jonathan and Kyle came to witness and our friend Paul officiated. You can see photos from our big day in the gallery on here. We held glasses of champagne in place of flowers. Alicia went to cut the cake without Josh (this should surprise no one). Our friend Carly made us a moody yuzu and white chocolate cake, it was to die for. After vows we popped some champagne and headed to one of our favorite dive bars, Burnhearts. We had a few more of our industry friends join us for drinks, we ate frozen pizza and drank our weight in champagne. It was perfect, and we couldn’t have asked for anything better.

Question

Did you go on a honeymoon?

Answer

No! Not yet. We got married on our day off from work, and spent the next day recovering from the best hangover we’ve ever had, and went back to work that Tuesday! We have just over a week off in October of this year and are hoping to go to Basque Country in Europe where we’ll enjoy fresh seafood and all the wine we could possibly want.

Question

Do you plan to have kids?

Answer

No :) We love being aunt/uncle to all of our blood related or non blood related nibblings! (Nibbling is the gender friendly term for niece/nephew) We may adopt, we may foster. But we are so young and we’re honestly married to our work. We’ll likely put that love and energy into our own restaurant instead.

Question

Did you get engagement photos taken?

Answer

Kind of? For Alicia’s birthday in 2021 we had a mini photo session done while camping. That same weekend Alicia decided she was going to propose and started to plan.

Question

How did you propose?

Answer

After our photo session that July, I [Alicia] started planning how I wanted to propose. Josh and I had an agreement when we weren’t too sure about marriage in general (on principle) he said the only way he’d agree to a proposal is if I did it with a toe ring. My stipulations have been for YEARS that I’d only say yes if I was proposed to while jumping out of an airplane. So I found a toe ring on Etsy, made a ring box out of a cute panda pill box, and made reservations for the sunset resort in Door County under the guise of his birthday celebration. I was so nervous the whole day that as soon as we checked into our room, we went outside to the rocky beach, sat down and I had him open up his gift. Inside of a card I had written him a love note, and eventually pulled out the toe ring and sheepishly asked him to marry me. I do have a video of it, just ask if you’d like to see.

Question

What’s your drink of choice?

Answer

A negroni! (Spagliato, with a little prosecco on top) Free pour of champagne if you come up to Alicia at some point throughout the reception and say this to her.

For all the days along the way
