The story started when Lexi moved to Edmond, Oklahoma, from Minnesota back in 2014 to train full-time with the Women's Paralympic Volleyball team. One evening a mutual friend had a get-together at his place and invited them both. Alex was single and ready to mingle. He had asked a friend about her and was immediately shut down. Fast forward a few years, and both had seen other people; they had reconnected and became acquaintances, but had not thought much of each other. In 2018, both were newly single and had started hanging out with the same friend group often. One evening, they had realized there was a connection. In the following weeks, Alex persistently pestered Lexi about giving the idea of them a shot, and she would continue to decline, but deep down, she had some feelings. Finally, Lexi had changed her mind, and shortly into the relationship, they realized they wanted to share their life together. 2020 rolls around, and with the impact of Covid-19, Alex's plans to propose at the Paralympics were thrown out the window when they found out that the Tokyo Games were being postponed until the following year. Lexi started pestering Alex about what was going through his brain. Finally, he got fed up and got the ring he'd gotten that day. He came back inside and said, "See! I planned on asking you, but you're impatient! Will you marry me!?" and the rest is history!
