April 1, 2018: Alexa receives a text from an unknown number: "Hey Alexa, this is Ryan Crum. It appears our moms are trying their hand at matchmaking!" Alexa is shocked and immediately asks her mother who this stranger is. "I'm not telling you anything, you'll just have to meet him." Nice try. A few LinkedIn and Google searches later, Alexa has learned everything important: school (Davidson), hobbies (golf), UCLA (fan). She also figures out that her mom met Ryan's mom at Vivante, the assisted living center where her grandmother Evelyn and Ryan's grandmother Rachelle lived. First Date: After a couple weeks of texting, Alexa finally asks Ryan to meet up, if only because they owe it to their mothers. Alexa walks into the coffee shop 7 minutes late ("SHE WAS 30 MINUTES LATE" - Ryan) and spots Ryan. After an awkward hug/handshake, they both order hot chocolate and spend hours talking about their families, The Office, The West Wing, and chocolate chip cookies. Alexa has a great time so she asks if Ryan wants to get something to eat. He says no because he has a volunteering gig...yeah right! The Second Date: Mini Golf After a mini golf date, during which Alexa destroys the so-called collegiate golfer ("SHE LOST BY AT LEAST 10" - Ryan), Alexa gets hangry and they end up at the first restaurant they find, where they have the following conversation: Alexa: I can't believe my mom didn't even meet you before setting us up. Ryan: Oh your mom's met me. She's met me multiple times. YOU'VE MET ME. Alexa:... Ryan:.... Alexa: don't take this the wrong way, but you don't leave an impression. Alexa discovers that they attended a Hanukkah dinner at their grandmas' assisted living center as an attempted setup in December 2014. Alexa doesn't remember meeting him, but there is photo evidence! A snapchat she sent to her friends with Ryan in the background and the caption "my mom's trying to set me up with him" (see below!) Shoutout to our grandmothers and mothers for this joyous day!
