In the summer of 2019, Alex was celebrating his sister, Oakley, at her high school graduation party for her and her friends. As the night came to a close, his gaze fell across the room and landed upon a scene which caught his utmost attention. His father stood with another man in deep conversation. And at that man's side, stood a very pretty girl who looked like she could use an escape. After first introducing himself to Danny, and learning that he and his father, Tim, had shared their college days together in the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity at the University of Florida, he then turned and introduced himself to Courtney. The girl who would soon become the love of his life. Summer came and went like the turn of a page. As they neared the next chapter, the two found themselves reluctant to say farewell as they prepared to return to school for Courtney to finish at Ole Miss and for Alex to complete his Master's degree at the University of Florida. On August 4th 2019, they decided no amount of distance would keep them apart. Over the course of 4 years, their love only continued to grow. Alex found himself a regular seat at the Coton family dinner, welcomed by Danny and Danna's overwhelming generosity. He also found 3 brothers and best friends, in J.P., Michael, and Brent. Courtney found herself adored by the Holmes family, considered a blessing by Tim and Elisa. For Oakley and Jolie, a sister that fit right in. After a heart pounding night, where Alex sat both Danny and Danna on the couch to ask for their blessing, he was ready to ask the easiest question of his life. And so a family trip was planned to Franklin, North Carolina. On Courtney's grandparent's property, there lies a path up through the trees that opens to an overlook of the valley below. A sacred spot which demands to be taken in upon each visit. On October 14th 2023, Alex led a suspicious Courtney up this trail, decorated in fiery red and orange leaves, under the guise of taking pictures before a dinner reservation that did not exist. As he waited for the sun to set, Courtney's suspicion began to fade as she grew anxious for their upcoming reservations. One last photo. He set the self timer on the camera, and dropped to a knee. Alex began his question.
