March 27, 2023.... It was a rather blustery (as expected) and confusingly, simultaneously warm day at the top of Arthur's Seat in Edinburgh. It had been about 1 hr since they started the ascent; which may or may not be long depending how you see it. After what seemed a rather exhaustive climb, they sat at the top for a bit to catch their breath and take in the magnificent views. Mind you, Arthur's seat is 823 feet above the city and Alex has quite the fear of heights. However, it was the least anxious part of the day since Alex knew for some time, he was going to finally propose and this was going to the spot! (Theres a little fun story about the lead up but feel free to inquire about that in person). They are not "showy" people or one for "big dramatic" scenes out in public, so they sat there, huddled together (trying to stay warm) and Alex began to recite as much of the speech he tried to formulate while on the flight over to the UK. There was some pauses and stumbles, but the sentiment came through. He reached into his pocket and brought out the ring. But in good ol' comedic fashion, Alex nervously dropped the ring in the process of trying to get it onto Ryan's finger and watched it start to roll down the slope in front of them. Alex began to narrate the horror that was unfolding ("There it goes...rolling...just keep on rolling.."). It rolled and rolled but thankfully it didn't go to far. Ryan held onto a rock behind him and leaned over. There was some laughter and jokes and alas he put on the ring. Of Course...he said yes....
