Alanna and Billy met in 2008 at the IC Food Fast event. They were friendly with each other for the next year at the weekly youth group they both started attending at IC.

Alanna and Billy didn't actually become friends until a 2009-2010 new years eve party they were both attending at a mutual friend's house. They purposefully hung out again at the 2010 IC Food Fast that year. They both stayed up late talking and playing games with some friends together. Alanna came home from college for the summer of 2010, and made plans to regularly hang out with Billy and his group of friends.

Alanna and Billy grew closer as they hung out more regularly. Billy finally kissed Alanna after the Twilight Eclipse movie premier that they attended with friends together. After that, they started hanging out separately from their friends more and more. While they both liked each other, they didn't want to be in a relationship since Alanna would be going back to NH for her 2nd year of college, and Billy would be starting his 1st year of college at UMass Amherst. (long distance never works). One day though, Billy said to Alanna "My dad asked me if you were my girlfriend. I said yes." To which Alanna didn't know how else to respond except "Okay." (yep, that's how they became official). When the summer ended, Billy and Alanna never ended up going their separate ways for college like they initially planned. They visited each other at college regularly, and fell deeply in love.

On March 14, 2021 (after being together for 10 and a half years), Billy finally proposed to Alanna after an intimate dinner in the home they have shared for over 3 years.
