Ade and I met for the first time at 'The Lobby' in Denver on May 10, 2015 when he was out visiting our mutual friend Diego, who he knew from Boston University. The second I saw him I threw my arms around him and said “you must be Ade!” He was easy to pick out because of his legendary smile that I had seen before in pictures. We sat by each other at brunch and I quickly fell in love with his genuine warm energy. Little did I know that day that I was meeting my soulmate. Four months later I got an offer letter from Major League Soccer saying I had received the position as the Digital Club Services Coordinator. I remember having mixed feelings- excited about the new chapter, and hesitant about leaving a place I loved to move to New York City. At work, I told Diego first. I shared my hesitations about moving since I didn’t know anyone in the city. His response? “You know Ade, Nick and Max. They’ll take care of you. You should reach out to Ade to see if he knows anyone that needs a roommate." I reached out to Ade six days later and from then until the time I moved Diego and DG constantly teased me saying that I was going to move to NYC, fall in love with Ade and then marry him. “You two would just really like each other and have similar personalities,” he’d say. Welp... they were right. Ade and I quickly became best friends - spending every weekend with our friend group. After one momentous trip to Boston and an eventful Kentucky Derby we decided to become more than friends and made it official on July 18, 2016. Since then, we moved to Colorado together, became full-time fur-parents to the most vivacious Australian Shepard Koda and bought our first home.

The Proposal

I Know You Said You Felt Love Before, But This Ain't the Same

July 18, 2020 marked our four-year anniversary since we became boyfriend and girlfriend in NYC. However, this year we would have to spend our anniversary apart (or so I thought) since I was in San Diego celebrating one of my best friends, Aubrey's, bachelorette. I woke up Ellen early that morning to tell her about the crazy dream I had the night before about how Ade proposed to me during the bachelorette. Props to Ellen because she held a straight face while I told her this story knowing this dream would come to fruition in less than 12 hours. We spent our day celebrating Aubrey on a beautiful boat with not a care in the world. We had plans to go out for our final dinner of the trip later that day. Aubrey had asked all of us to dress up so we could take photos at Sunset Cliffs before dinner. Upon arrival I thought the spot was SO beautiful so I sent myself my location so I would remember to bring Ade with me the next time we visited San Diego - little did I know we would be visiting that same spot together in less than five minutes. While we were taking photos, Ade was sneaking down the cliff with a ring in tow. As I finished my individual photos with Aubrey, I hollered for the next person to trade spots with me. As I walked away Ade grabbed my hand from behind. I turned around and the second I saw him I knew exactly why he was there. I screamed ‘Nuh uh’ and looked at my friends who were smiling and filming the proposal with their phones so I yelled even louder ‘Nuh uh’ once I realized they had been in on the whole thing. Out of shock I kicked my shoes off and followed Ade down the cliff until he stopped. I was sobbing tears of joy and kept repeating ‘Is this really happening?!’ Ade’s reply was ‘Girl, chill chill.’ After a few sweet words he then proceeded to get down on one knee and asked if I would marry him. I of course said yes. Screaming and laughing with so much joy I hugged my fiancé for the first time. It’ll forever be my favorite hug.
