How it Started Vs How it’s Going

Loving Day Honored

Brian, a southern gent from Mobile, AL and a dedicate soldier in the U.S. Army, was relocated to Nashville, TN in Feb 2019 to start his next assignment as a Recruiter. After spending the previous 3yrs serving his country overseas, he selected a state-side position to be more present in his son Carter's life. A true man of sacrifice & family values. Aimée moved to Nashville in July '19 on a whim and a prayer trying to prove herself (and everyone else that ever doubted her) that she would be successful in her career in the construction industry. No easy feat as she battled gaining respect, value and equality of gender roles in the workplace. Just another challenge she wasn't afraid to take on. Her main focus and fierce drive was fueled by her daughter, Adelayna, who she had been single mothering for many years and was not about to let her down. Neither he nor she had any interest in dating or looking for “the one". Both a bit battered and bruised from past relationship traumas, they were steadfast on healing their hearts, leaning into their faith, focusing on careers and being the best single parents they could be. It was only a few short weeks after Aimée moved into her modern luxury apartment just north of the city, soaking up the end of summer rays at the pool, watching Adelayna do dives and flips for hours, she spotted a handsome hunk in Army fatigues getting out of his murdered out Mustang looking chiseled, clean cut and very much her type. He saw her see him and they locked eyes for the first time. The following 3 months consisted of a cat and mouse game of eye-spying each other across parking lots, checking one another out as they passed by on evening runs, getting the 411 from the neighbors on the "hot Army guy". 3 months later....it's a typical Wednesday in early October. Aimée is on her way to the mail room (ok so maybe she took the long way around, but that’s besides the point), and there he is walking her way - dark, handsome, and in uniform…yeah, she forgot everything she so smoothly prepped to say for months. But there it was - the very moment that changed the course of direction for both Aimée & Brian’s life & future. We entered our relationship with complete openness and vulnerability, sharing our hardest of truths and honest of mistakes made in the past. It wasn't easy but it was something neither of us had tried before. We honored one another’s hurt by giving each other empathy and understanding. We continue to evolve as individuals as a couple, and a blended family. Learning to let go of old hurt, building on a solid foundation of trust, openness and faith, and making room for tough conversations. We are not oblivious to the hard press around interracial relationships (still to this day), but we are committed to the work, breaking generational curses and protecting one another at all costs. Just shy of 3 years later, we have intentionally & lovingly integrated our lives together. Bought a brand new home in 2020, raising two amazing children, a spunky little Yorkie name Tallulah “Lula”, and a docile bearded dragon, Spike. God is Good. We are elated to share the next chapter of our story with our nearest and dearest friends & family, in this intimate and enchanting experience in the heart of the tropical Mayan jungle. In honor of the Mildred and Richard Loving - an interracial couple who changed the course of history by dismantling the anti-miscegenation laws across the southern states. Their love story, although costing them jail time and forced to leave their hometown, brought awareness of the infringement on our individual rights to marry who we shall chose. With the help of the ACLU, and 10 yrs later - The Supreme Court passed an amendment to the U.S. Constitution on June 12th, 1967 (ONLY 55 yrs ago) - lifting the ban on interracial marriages across all states. We celebrate Loving Day, a week early, in memory of the Loving's and their unapologetic love for one another, no matter the cost.
