Martin and Adrienne met in May of 2017. Adrienne had come home for a few weeks before starting graduate school in Omaha, NE and was helping her mom, Robin, with yard work. After a hard day's work, Robin convinced Adrienne to go to the bar for pizza and a cold one. When Adrienne and Robin sat down, Martin came over and asked what they wanted. Adrienne asked if they had any sour beers, this automatically caught Martin's interest (side note: most Woodworthians don't drink sour beers, but Martin lived in NC for sometime and had grown to love sour beers). Sadly, Martin had to break the news that he didn't serve any sour beers, but that he had ciders, which was going to be Adrienne's next question. Shortly after this, Robin overheard Martin on the phone struggling to find someone to work for him for the summer. Robin asked Adrienne, somewhat jokingly, if she would be interested in working at the Woodworth Bar, Titos Tavern, for the summer. Adrienne laughed and told Robin that was a great joke. However, after laughing about it, Adrienne stopped and actually thought about it. So both Robin and Adrienne asked Martin about his thoughts. He was open to the idea, but didn't think it was going to work out knowing that Adrienne would be a short-time employee. However, after speaking to Camden and Loren, the regulars who knew Adrienne from high school, Martin reconsidered and offered Adrienne the job. On Adrienne's first day of work, she dropped a pizza on the floor. Martin laughed and told her that he does this stuff all the time and helped her clean up the mess. Martin's quirkiness and kindness automatically made Adrienne interested in getting to know him more. Robin had specifically told Adrienne, "Don't you fall in love with this guy!" due to the late nights and the way that Adrienne talked about him. After a few weeks of working and staying late nights talking about conspiracy theories, drinking coffee, and eating pie, Martin and Adrienne became good "friends." The fact that Adrienne knew about conspiracy theories, made Martin question if this could be more than just friends; however, Martin was not making any moves. But the night that Adrienne was going to write Martin off as just a friend, is the time he asked her, "So would it be inappropriate if I asked you out on a date?" Adrienne awkwardly laughed and said, "Let's just see where the summer goes." Well lets just say that the rest of the summer was spent spending more late nights in the bar drinking coffee, eating pie, and enjoying each others' company. The rest is history.
