How We Met

We met how most modern couples meet these days… on a dating app! After being the latest Jewish girl blown away by Cesar’s Peruvian + Jewish upbringing (and bonding over wanting to travel to Japan) we decided to meet in LA’s Little Tokyo for sushi. Cesar made Adrienne eat the weirdest sushi (although she did quite enjoy some of it – who knew monkfish liver was edible?!), they went to a local jazz club, and then continued to bar hop through downtown. At the end of the night, they made a vow to go visit the real Tokyo together someday. They haven't been there yet, but first things first... a wedding!

When Adrienne Knew...

In typical Adrienne fashion, I took my time before I decided Cesar was “the one”. I pondered. I analyzed. I over-analyzed and then thought some more. But, there was one moment that stuck out to me where I knew this was it. One night, we wanted to go see The Black Keys perform at the Wiltern in Los Angeles. It was a pretty sought after ticket. Luckily, I have a brother in the music "biz" who scored us two tickets. We also bought one extra resale ticket so a friend could join us. When we got to the venue, chaos ensued. Anyone who bought resale tickets was not allowed in! Two usable tickets with three people... without hesitation, and knowing he'd miss seeing one of his favorite bands, Cesar gave me and my friend the tickets and left before we could even debate it. Once inside, I remember thinking he was the man that I would someday marry. Someone who is a gentlemen and kind. Someone who puts the people he loves (me) before himself. Someone who brings me joy and happiness. Little did I know, Cesar also had a great night... at the Denny's next door eating french fries.

When Cesar Knew...

It's fun to imagine "a moment" ... she did this, and now I'm in love forever. I don't think it actually works like that... in fact, I think there are many moments – too many to list here, and many that shouldn't be listed here. Nevertheless, here are my favorites: Sitting at the sushi bar on our first date, I made Adrienne eat geoduck and monkfish liver. I hadn't had either before, but my mantra of "try anything anyone anywhere considers delicious" has never let me down. I thought they tasted great, and Adrienne humored me. That was the moment where I thought, "this has potential." Meeting Adrienne's entire family at Justin and Mariela's wedding – a mere 96 days after our first date! I love to schmooze and meet new people, so I wasn't worried at all. Adrienne, on the other hand, was an absolute wreck – a nervous time bomb waiting to explode. Of course, everyone loved me (because, obviously) but most notably, I remember speaking to Justin who told me how happy he is to see his sister so happy and speaking to Mariela, who I remember telling her mom that I'd be around for a while. Not only did I already love Adrienne, but I loved her family as well. And then, it's everything else: the squeals, the smile, the eyes, the tenderness, the way she cares about everyone and everything and wants to make sure it's all perfect. Through the toughest year the world has ever faced, and through one of the most difficult years I've ever faced, Adrienne was by my side and I never grew tired of her. It's not a moment – it's a series of moments that, stringed together, form the reasons why I love her, and encompass "When I Knew."

The Proposal

Quarantine has definitely been a challenge – especially when you're lying to your then girlfriend now fiancé about your random trips downtown for "work meetings at the office." Aren't those not allowed? Didn't Cesar's office close for quarantine? Yes and yes. A couple of white lies to set up a surprise engagement are well worth it. After this weeks long process, where Cesar leveraged Adrienne's best friend's insider knowledge to design the ring, he was ready to pop the question. Knowing that Adrienne's parents would appreciate being "old school," Cesar called Glenn and Rosalyn to ask if he could stop by the house. Already suspecting what was about to happen, they said "Yes, yes! Come by whenever." After a beautiful conversation, parents' blessing in-hand, Cesar was ready to go. Cesar was already nervous, and his parents, Molke and Oscar, texted him every single day with a number counting down to the special moment. They were so excited to finally have a daughter. On July 23, 2020, Adrienne's birthday, Cesar went to Los Angeles to pick up sushi from the restaurant where he first met the love of his life. That night, Adrienne and Cesar went to watch the sunset on the beach, drink wine, and have a picnic on the sand. She said yes, and now you're here on their website.
