Travel Note
As of March 15th 2022, travelers must be fully vaccinated (including 1st booster) to enter France. The Covid Pass Sanitaire (vaccine pass) is no longer required for entry into public leisure spaces. We will continue to update this site periodically, but for the most up-to-date info, check the site below
Flight
The two most convenient international airports are Paris CDG, and Geneva GVA. For first-time visitors to France, we recommend flying into Paris CDG because it is directly connected to the Paris metro and national train system. From Paris CDG airport, you can take a regional train (RER) into the city to reach Gare de Lyon, where you can take the Southbound high speed train (TGV). Flying into Geneva GVA is closer in distance, but will require train changes or a rental car. Check out the link below for some tips to get the best price on flights (we use SkyScanner and Google Flights all the time!)
Hotel
Three star hotel, recently renovated to preserve authenticity while adding modern comforts. Centrally located in town in front of the historic Saltworks. The hotel has an an elevator and rooms have the air conditioning. Free WiFi in all the rooms and in the restaurant. The restaurant has a view of the old saltworks and the mountainside. We recommend this option for guest who would prefer a more traditional hotel stay. We do not have a block at this hotel, but you can book via most major online travel sites.
House Or Rental
For guests who would like to be right at the center of the activities, we have arranged for simple lodging to be available on site at the venue. These "gites" are small shared studios with private bathroom and kitchenette. Additional details on the Fort accommodations can be found at the link below. If you would like to reserve a space at the Fort, please indicate so the "Lodging" section of your RSVP. If you have questions, please reach out!
Hotel
Three start historic hotel situated at the center of Salins les Bains, which offers a pool, fitness center, and sauna. Two small restaurants offer a taste of regional cuisine. There is free parking for hotel guests, and the hotel shuttle is available to guests to get about town. We recommend this option for guest who would prefer a more traditional hotel stay. We do not have a block at this hotel, but you can book via most major online travel sites.
Train
We highly recommend using the rail system to get around France. The closest train station to Salins-les-Bains is Gare de Mouchard, which services both the TGV (high speed train) and RER (regional train) lines, and is about 10 minutes away from the town center. For those who want to explore the region, the station closest to Martin's family home is the Gare de Frasne! You can check itineraries and book your tickets via RailEurope.
Travel Note
Taxis are common in France, and can be hailed from the designated taxi queue at most airports and train stations. You can also typically request that your hotel call a taxi for you, or call a service directly. Not all taxi drivers speak English, so it's best to have your destination written down for the driver's reference. Just like in the US, Uber is available in many large cities, but is rarely available in smaller towns.
Rental Car
Driving can be intimidating for first-time visitors to Europe, and there is generally public transit available, including an extensive bus system in the Jura region. If you prefer to use a rental car, there are several services available at Paris CDG and Geneva GVA (Hertz, Europcar, Avis), but make sure that you research the laws in advance, and confirm if your rental is a manual or automatic transmission.
