Adam and Sam met during an American Sign Language class while at the University of Arizona. Adam was not so great at sign language and sent out a class email asking if anyone was willing to practice with him. Sam, having already taken 4 years of sign language in high school, read that email and said “sure, I’ll help this poor guy.” What Sam didn’t know at the time was that Adam sent out that email hoping Sam would be the one to respond (Adam claims he noticed Sam on the first day of class and thought she was cute). They met for the first time after class for a tutoring session and Adam invited Sam to go shoot guns out in the middle of the desert. After that, Sam got sick and Adam, being the sweet and thoughtful guy he is, brought her a care package. Sam then realized “oh, this guy LIKES me”. They had their first date after that and continued to date for a couple of years, taking many road trips and traveling around Europe together. However, life and long distance soon got in the way and Adam and Sam made the mutual decision to go their separate ways. Adam was focused on river guiding and Sam was gearing up to go to graduate school. They remained friends and were consistent in catching up with each other throughout the years. After 8 years of not seeing each other, Adam and Sam were catching up and decided to meet up in Joshua Tree. They spent a few days together and by the end of the trip, love was rekindled and Adam had a flight booked to visit Sam in Seattle 4 weeks later. Somehow Adam and Sam found themselves doing long distance again, flying back and forth between Seattle and Flagstaff for months. While on a road trip to Texas, Adam proposed under a total solar eclipse and Sam said “f*ck yeah!”. Sam then made the big change of packing up her life in Seattle and moving down to Flagstaff. And the rest is history!
