I try to never second guess life's winding roads as they usually lead me to places I didn't know i was supposed to be and friends I wish I met years before. Over twenty years ago one winding road led me from my home in Seattle Washington to Austin Texas. What started off as an adventure full of excitement and anticipation into the unknown turned into a reality of a new life into a new city with no old friends or family. I landed a job at the Driskill hotel and after a few conversations with my new boss her exact words were " you are going to meet Johnny and he is going to be your best friend." Over twenty years later words have never rang more true .From coffee and chess to floating the San Marcos river at 5 a.m. thanks for the stories that they wont believe and meeting me on a windy road.

When Aidan was in the seventh grade Gracie and I took Aidan to the store to fill orders for his " product resale business". As we walked the aisles and watched Aidan fill his cart with Taki chips and candy bars we asked ourselves more then once if this was OK. When Aidans principal called after about our second or third trip and said he confiscated three grocery bags full of snacks that Aidan claimed as his lunch we got our answer. It was absolutely O.K.Aidan was an entrepreneur for as long as i can remember and a good one at that. Despite little kids spending there lunch money on Taki chips and candy bars we will never hold him back. Now he is a 19 year old man on his way to his real-estate license while pursuing his goal to graduate from Texas State. Im proud he is my son and Groomsman.

8 years ago i was in a fresh relationship with a woman who now will soon be my wife. As she walked in and sat down at my job with a man i never met i thought maybe our new relationship isnt what it seems and im going to be waiting on the love of my life and her date. He began to ask questions about me and i realized quickly that this was not a date but a life long friend of Gracies and i wasnt getting anywhere without his approval. This man was Marco Ruiz. As i try every day to be good enough for Gracie I managed to get the thumbs up from Marco. As years have passed i got to know how important and special Marco was to Gracie and her family . He was the first person i asked to be my Groomsmen and Im happy to call him my life long friend as well.

I met Tom over twenty years ago as he was handing out flyers to his friends band Blink 182 that would be coming in a months time. For those who dont know, Blink 182 is one of the biggest pop punk bands ever assembled so our small click was a little skeptical when he assured us he would get us on the guest list. Finally the day arrived and as we walked into the venue the door man sternly told Tom there was no guest list. We paid our dues and went in anyway and thought Tom was pretty cool dude none the less. Five minutes later i heard Tom sarcastically telling someone thanks for putting us on the guest list and it was Tom Delonge from Blink 182 and introductions were made.From massive snowball fights with the neighboor kids to sharing the stage at showbox Tom became one of my bestfriends.

I moved from Seattle to Austin with Wes over twenty years ago and there is not enough space to share our stories and laughs as some are unbelievable anyways. Wes is the most talented musician i ever met and he shared his passion of music with me as he turned me on to bands that i still love to this day and taught me a few chords on bass as well. As bad as i was on bass Wes , Tom and I still managed to form the best band ever created "The Feekals". From jam sessions in our basement to headlining the showbox for a one night only event ,those were some of the best days of my life. Though we are states apart i still hold our good times close. Clean up on aisle 12 old friend.
