Her Story

I met Adam somewhere in our college freshman dorm and was... not impressed. Who is this wild guy with energy off the walls, talking fast as a whip, and so enthusiastic about life?! He was too much for me, so we didn't cross paths again until Senior year. I wanted to get into the dancing scene at Billy Bob's, where tons of college students would drive an hour to Fort Worth every Thursday night at 10pm. Adam was by far the best, and most fun, dancer in my eyes. After a few nights of Adam not asking me to dance, I walked up to him and said "I have to dance with you. You're far too fun to dance with and miss out on." And that was the start! He was fun and wild. Our shouted bar conversations turned into long discussions where we would talk through anything and everything. Anyone that knows Adam knows that a simple "discussion" really means an in-depth, long-form, think-fast, potentially-shake-your-foundational-beliefs type of conversation. But I loved it, and I know that's what I want for the rest of my life.

His Story

Within our first 3 months of dating, I brought up my concept of an “Engagement 401K” to replace an Engagement Ring. For those who I haven’t pitched this idea to yet: Since a Marriage is the ceremony announcing the two of you are building the rest of your life together, what better way to lock in a marriage than making an investment that can’t be accessed for the next 40 years! How romantic! When Emmeline didn’t immediately look revolted after hearing the idea, I knew she was a keeper. I was responsible for the proposal. The actual wedding part would be easy - Emmeline has been planning her wedding since she was 5, and the guest list had already been outlined for the past year. But proposals are hard. You only do it once, so it’s impossible to get good at it, and every social media post shows the bride-to-be surprised, excited, and in love. My proposal managed to get the surprised part down perfectly! Potentially too perfectly, as she nearly fell over when I got down on one knee. There is a lot I am looking forward to about marriage. The weekend to-do lists. The dishes you are only allowed to use when guests come over. Children (2 if Emmeline gets her way, 3 if I am extra convincing). But most of all, I am excited to be able to have impressed this girl I met in my college freshman dorm enough to do it with me.
