While we aren't celebrating in Nashville, we can bring a little Nashville energy to New York! In Nashville, people like to keep things classy and spunky with a twist of country. Here are some ideas to shake things up. - Replace your neck tie with a bolo tie - Bring along a cowboy hat - Swap out your traditional suit jacket with a swanky dinner jacket - Throw on some (cowboy) boots that will be great from the cocktail hour through dancing - Wear a fun jumpsuit in lieu of a classic dress We just want everyone to have fun, so whether you add a Nashville twist or not, wear clothes you can boogie in!
We will be offering a bus from Manhattan to and from Edgewood for Manhattan-based individuals and guests flying from out of town. Please copy and paste this link and fill out the form if you would like to use the bus service! https://forms.gle/e1k4Bqvp9ZVz1VYz8
We can't wait to celebrate with everyone, and we want to ensure we explain various traditions you will see at the wedding! COCKTAIL HOUR AND BEDEKEN During cocktail hour, deemed the "smorg", there will be lots of great food, a bar, and 2 very important things! During the smorg, the bride and groom are separated into different rooms. This is because the next step is the veiling of the bride, called the "Bedeken". While Abby will be in the main area for cocktail hour (no one else needs to separate!), Jacob will be holding court in a separate room for the tisch. In this room, relatives and friends will toast Jacob and do some festive singing. During the tisch, Jacob will sign the Ketubah and our moms will break a plate together. This will go on for about an hour until it's time for the bedeken. A band will come and accompany everyone in the tisch room as they dance the groom in a procession/parade into the main room where the groom will veil the bride and the parents can give a blessing. The groom will then be danced out. CHUPPAH / CEREMONY During the chuppah, the order of events will be as follows: family and wedding party will walk down the aisle, Abby and Jacob will walk around each other 3 times each and once together, rings will be exchanged, seven blessings will be read, we will listen to a song to remember the destruction of the Holy Temple, and Jacob will break the glass, after which Abby and Jacob will officially be married! DANCING At the beginning of dinner/dancing when we carry on the festivities, it is in some communities traditional to begin with dancing to Hebrew music. At some point during the Hebrew music, Abby and Jacob will sit down will different groups of people perform jokes for us called "shtik." People will make signs, wear special clothes, or do a little dance!
