Getting around in Lake Como is fairly easy! There is a ferry port in Varenna which can take you all around the lake. Ferry tickets can be purchased in advance or by walking up to the window at the ferry port. During the summer, the window lines can get a little long, so we recommend either buying your ticket online, or buying a day pass ticket which allows you to skip the line. An individual ferry ticket costs around $5euros and a day pass is around $15euros. The ticket windows do accept credit card! Make sure to check the ferry schedule online or at the ticket window for accurate times. Please note that August 15th is a national holiday in Italy- the ferries will still be running, but they may run on a different schedule.
There are many great airlines for international travel. We recommend traveling with the airline of your choice. However, we do recommend avoiding United Airlines for international travel- this is based on the personal experiences of close family and friends!
The wedding ceremony, cocktail hour and dinner will be outside overlooking the beautiful lake. Most of the ground at the venue is gravel, although very level and walkable, we advise against stilettos.
It can get pretty hot in Italy during the summer! Typically in August, Lake Como is around the 80s, but it can feel much warmer. We recommend packing fans, hats, and sunscreen to protect yourself from the heat! We also recommend taking a swim in the lake to cool off! Not every hotel and Air BNB will be equipped with air conditioning- we recommend you take note of this before booking your accommodations!
August is one of the busier times for travel in Lake Como. Please expect crowds around the various towns! August 15th is also a national holiday in Italy, which can attract crowds. However, if you still happen to be in the area on the 15th, you can enjoy a spectacular firework show over the lake that night!
Outside of your normal packing list, here are some things you might need while in Italy: -an outlet adapter- Italy uses different outlets than the US, so you will need a converter! If you are planning on plugging in higher voltage items, specifically hair dryers and steamers, we recommend also bringing a voltage converter as well! -euros- It can sometimes be easier to take out euros in cash in the US before traveling to Italy to avoid ATM fees. You will need cash for things like taxis, however everything else can be paid with a credit card!
Due to capacity restrictions at our venue, we are unable to accommodate any additional guests. Any plus ones will be added to your formal invitation. We cannot wait to celebrate with you all!
