Flying to Key West

Several major airlines schedule regular service to both Key West International Airport and Marathon Airport. These include Delta, United, Silver Airways and American Airlines. Many flights are routed through Miami International Airport, although some smaller airlines, such as Cape Air and Air Key West offer private charters, and scheduled direct flights from many cities in Florida and the Bahamas. International flights must connect to one of these airlines in Miami.

Flying to Miami/Fort Lauderdale

If you choose to fly into Miami or Fort Lauderdale, we recommend renting a car to drive to Key West. Because the island of Key West itself is only 2 miles by 4 miles, many guests choose to return their car at the Key West airport and pick another one back up at the end of their trip to make the drive back up. From Miami International Airport: The drive from Miami Airport takes approximately 3 hours. 
Take LeJeune Road south to 836 West. Take the Florida Turnpike south toward Key West. The Turnpike ends at US 1 in Florida City. Follow U.S. 1 south as far as it goes and you will be in Key West. From Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport: The drive from Fort Lauderdale Airport to Key West takes approximately 4 hours. Exit the airport and follow the signs for 595 West. Take 595 to the Florida Turnpike and follow the signs for the Florida Keys and Key West. From the North, take the Florida Turnpike south and follow the signs for Homestead and Key West.

Driving to Key West

Key West is the southernmost island in the Florida Keys, located 159 miles southwest of Miami. Your drive there is along one of the most scenic roads in North America. The Overseas Highway or U.S. Highway 1 has 43 overseas bridges, including the historic 7-mile bridge-and a total of 113 miles of roadway that extends nearly 90 miles off the mainland. It ends at mile marker zero in the heart of Key West. 

The Florida Turnpike is the fastest route to the entrance of the Florida Keys.  Speed limits throughout the Florida Keys are strictly enforced and range from 35 mph to 55 mph. Please be especially careful through the Big Pine Key area, as this is a Key Deer Refuge. Speed limits are reduced along this stretch of road.
