God has a funny/wonderful way of working things out for his purpose. The High School Years Trey and Abbey have known each other since their freshman year of high school in 2010, through an organization called FFA, have you ever heard of it? They were somewhat involved. That last sentence is sarcasm, both of them lived and breathed FFA. Both showed livestock, both competed in the same competitions like livestock judging and prepared public speaking. Both were chapter officers and attended every conference they could. Even though they knew each other, and had met at all these events they were only ever “just friends”. The College Years Trey and Abbey both started college at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College in Tifton, Georgia (Gee Haw Woah Back…). Abbey knew she would only be there a semester since she was going to UGA in the spring. This kind of bummed Abbey out. She was talking to her mom one evening wishing she could start at UGA in the fall, and how she didn’t understand why she had been deferred until the spring semester. Her mom then said, “You never know what could happen. You may meet your future husband.” Momma’s always right, I guess! ABAC is where Trey and Abbey became best friends. In FFA they were friends, but didn’t really see each other outside of the group. In college they hung out most everyday. Abbey just thought of Trey as a good friend, but Trey always had a secret crush on Abbey. All of Abbey’s friends have later pointed out how oblivious she was to the fact that he liked her. However, the friend zone is where they stayed. Adult Years After Abbey moved up to UGA, Trey and Abbey really didn’t talk or see each other all that much. They both had totally different paths. Trey moved out to Texas to work with livestock, and Abbey moved up to Tennessee to follow her career. Six years after their paths last crossed they wound up at Andy and Jordan Paul’s wedding … (we love a good wedding). Before the wedding Abbey made a comment to her mom, “They say weddings are a great place to meet people. You never know my future husband could be there tonight.” There goes God again, weaving the story line together like only he could. It wasn’t until the reception when Abbey and Trey caught up like old times even flirted a little bit too. At the end of the evening Trey played it cool and decided to test Abbey. He thought, “I’m going to say goodbye to all the folks in the circle of friends expect for Abbey, and if she decides to say goodbye to me then I know she likes me.” That’s exactly what Trey did, and to Abbey’s frustration it worked like a charm. Abbey said, “Trey, you’re going to hug everyone else goodbye except for me?!” She went in for the hug, and Trey made his move. “If you want let’s grab dinner when we both get back to Georgia.” Abbey said, “Sure thing!” Two weeks later Trey happened to be driving through Nashville, Tennessee on Abbey’s last night in town. Trey asked if she’d like to grab dinner, and Abbey agreed only with the caveat that she wasn’t going to be dressed up because everything she owned was on a truck headed back to Georgia. Their first date was at M.L. Rose Burgers, and they’ve been burger buddies ever since. In all seriousness, from the first date Trey and Abbey both felt things were different. Just two longtime friends turned lifelong partners seemed like the most natural transition in the world. Every ounce of credit goes to God. Coincidence is not something Trey and Abbey believe in, but rather Devine intervention that put both of them in exactly the right places at the right time. Here’s to a lifetime of sharing how good Jesus is together!
