Kenny walked up to Abby at a party the first day of our freshman year at BYU. He got her number by pretending he loved to play soccer and wanting to coordinate a time to play together (when in reality he hadn't played since he was five years old and got his head stuck in the goalie net). He couldn't wait and texted her the next morning as soon as he woke up. That led to a semester of free ice cream samples at the creamery where Abby worked and Abby trying to get to American Heritage early to score the seat next to Kenny. Passing notes in American Heritage turned into weekly emails throughout our missions and picking up right where we left off when we got home.
It all happened where we had our first date. The Welling family has a cabin at Sundance where we had visited a few times as freshman four years earlier. A few days after coming back to Provo, we head up to the cabin with some friends to watch a movie and catch up. After the friends had left, and the dishes were done, we were packing up to leave and Abby, suspecting nothing, took her own sweet time to round her things up while Kenny tried to convince her that deciding what to do with the empty pizza box really didn't need to take that much time and hurried her out the door. Outside was the dreamiest scene of Christmas lights illuminating the cabin porch overlooking Stewart Waterfalls. It could not have been more perfect.
